Delta Ag and Goanna join forces in Goondiwindi

In a merger that underpins its expanding investments in Precision Ag technologies, and the effective utilisation of collated farm data, Delta Agribusiness has acquired part of Goanna Telemetry Systems in Goondiwindi, with Goanna retaining its independence in the partnership.

Delta Ag has been growing across New South Wales for the past decade – recently partnering with NFS Agribusiness in Gunnedah – and the partnership with Goanna Telemetry will see Delta Ag roll out and manage a comprehensive automated weather network across NSW providing new decision support tools for farmers.

Gerard Hines, Managing Director of Delta Ag, said the partnership will extend the product offering far beyond the supply of quality telemetry products.

“Delta Ag and Goanna’s partnership will bring to life cutting edge technologies that translate raw data on weather and soil moisture into valuable decision and analysis tools.

“We are already rolling out automatic weather stations and soil moisture probes as part of a new, innovative network called DAWWN (Delta Automated Weather and Water Network),” he said.

“DAWWN will be a comprehensive network of 72 connected sites across Delta Ag’s New South Wales footprint, which incorporates in its grid the existing BOM sites – a 12,500,000 hectare area in which every hectare will be less than 25 kilometres from an automatic weather station and soil moisture probe site.

“Goanna’s telemetry products – created and developed in Australia – will underpin the weather stations and data/software platforms for DAWWN.”

Tom Dowling of Goanna Telemetry, said the new partnership has provided the capital base, back end support and network traction to take Goanna to the next level. It will allow Goanna to fully focus on further developing its telemetry, web hosting and sensor technology, while increasing its business capacity.

“We can now accelerate several innovations we have in the pipeline, including enhanced crop modelling tools, the incorporation of satellite imagery into weather and soil moisture analysis and improvements in the way farmers can view and interact with this data, all improving farm management decision making,” he said.

Delta Ag’s Gerard Hines said 2016 would be an exciting year for the partnership, as Delta Ag rolls out new technologies.
